Music plays a big role in our lives today. Every TV show has their theme, every commercial has one and we listen to the radio on the way to work.
We also listen to our MP3 players in the gym and sing in the shower. There are "Don't forget the lyric" shows on TV and quizzes about songs on the radio.
And who could forget the new favorite past time of everybody? Karaoke! Or did you think I'd say Guitar Hero? Well, guess what, both include music!
Now I'm from Europe and we have a slightly different Music taste. It sometimes takes a while till a song form over here finds it's way over to Europe and vice versa. A couple of years back it took longer, now days with internet and global media it doesn't take that long.
Since I like music a lot, but don't claim to be a music genius or critic, I listen to the European single charts aswell. Now it's interesting how many songs in the respective country's native language are in their single charts. And of course they're only popular, or way more popular, in that specific country.
Which makes me wonder if the different states over here would speak another language, would the music vary from state to state? Actually I'm pretty sure that in heavily Hispanic populated areas, there are more Spanish songs on the radio and there would be more Spanish songs in the charts if they'd do charts per city.
Enough talking, more music!
I finally added a music player to my myspace profile! You can check that out at www.claudiocastagnoli.com or myspace.com/claudiocastagnoli But, it doesn't just play when you load the page (yes I hate these), it just plays when you click play!
And I loaded it with 5 songs for now. I think that's a good number. I'll exchange songs when I find new ones I like.
What it's there for is to play some songs you might not hear in the US. I heard them listening to European stations and I like them for one reason or the other. So here are my 2 Rappen to each one.
1. Jimi Blue - Keys to the City. He's the son of a German Actor and this song is just fun to listen to. Yes it has a little German accent and the text is not too deep (actually not at all) but hey, that makes it fun! Apart from that, this song is the theme song to the german TV show "Dance Star".
2. Scooter - Jump the Rock (feat. Status Quo). Yes, I hated Scooter when I grew up. Why? Because all it is it's some simple techno beat and some dude yelling. This song has the popular Status Quo song "whatever you want" mixed in. But the rest didn't change (in over 10 years!!). Maybe it's because I lived over here for a while now, but this song reminds me of Europe... You gotta love bad techno...
3. Bushido - Ching Ching. This song is in German. Even if you don't understand you might like it. When I grew up I listened to many songs I didn't understood. I still listen to songs I don't understand completly (Spanish, French, etc). This song is basically about how it's hard to grow up in the streets and why people who don't live in the streets never understand why people do certain things. But don't mistake this for just hateing or bragging, it has a good message and the text is really good.
4. Maria Mena - All this time. Maria is a 22 year old Norwegian woman. This song is from her first internationally released album "Cause and Effect". Two of her songs were featured on "So you think you can Dance" over here in Seasons 3 and 4. So she might not be completly unknown over here, but I think this song has hit potential. Great song!
5. Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008. A remix of Guru Josh's 1989 hit "Infinity" DJ Klaas remixed it and now it's Infinity 2008. Well it rocks! So here's my key philosophy, a freak like me just needs infinity!
That's it for now!
Oh, if I could have one other song on there it would be the "Baby come back" from the Swiffer comercial! Yes, the song that the mob's singing! Or more the mariachi band...
