Tuesday Morning

Not the store, my morning!

How are you guys doing? Good? Well so am I! I only have about 40 minutes before I’ll hit the gym but I figured I’d write some stuff here!

Why? Well because lately I’ve gotten lots of workout questions and some people wanted me to write more about my workouts.

Well here’s another tip from me! Go to the free classes at your gym!
That’s where I’m going in a little bit too!

I just started last week and I was blown away. I could also slap myself for not starting this earlier. You get fresh new workouts every week, they play fun music and you don’t have to plan nothing! Just go, have a good time and enjoy a good workout.

Even if you’re the only dude in there, that doesn’t matter, don’t be scared away by that.

In my past blogs I also mentioned that I don’t like talking to people at the gym. During the workout that is. Once I start I am in my zone and want to go through everything properly without being interrupted.

After or before the workout if you have questions or see a personal trainer that’s not busy, talk to them, ask them questions. Like that you get free advice and you will learn without having to read up on stuff. You should like that. I know I do!

My friend just told me he likes to listen to sad music at the gym because it makes him mad which leads to a good workout. I also know people who listen to slow love songs. I listen to what I consider happy music. That just shows you that you should just listen to whatever you like and whatever works for you!

Food is very important when working out too. It is fuel for your body and if you work out hard you need to give your body the proper fuel. I eat clean healthy food everyday that tastes great! And so can you! You just have to find a couple of meals that you like and stick with them!

Try to eat more meals a day instead of two or three big ones. This is mostly common knowledge because it will help speeding up your metabolism because your body constantly needs to process and burn the food you eat.

When you go to the supermarket, try to follow this rule:

“If you can’t hunt it down, fish it out of the sea, pick it off a tree or dig it out of the ground, then do not eat it”

I found this quote in a book and it really helped me. Hopefully it helps you to. Now of course there’s a couple of things I eat that don’t follow this rule, like Peanut Butter or Protein Bars but hey, everybody needs a little snack :) But if you follow this rule in general you’ll make good food choices.

Pick and buy local food! This goes especially for fruit and vegetables. You will not only support your local community and producers you will also help save the environment. Just imagine how much fuel it costs to drive some apples from Mexico or California to your local grocery store? And how much exhaust it will produce. Also there’s a much longer in transit time.
Most big grocery stores have their own brands that come from local growers. They are also cheaper most of the time!

When you go out of the house, always bring some food with you. I always get hungry when I’m running errands and then I want to snack. If I have a protein bar or an apple with me I will eat that and not thinking about buying some candy at the store.

Now to the workout part. Don’t get all jacked up on weights! Yes there’s a guy pushing 350 at bench at your gym, but even if you beat him there will be another guy coming along who presses 400. You need to find what’s good for you and do it the proper way.

You can get a great workout without going super heavy. Do you have a guy at your gym who curls super heavy weight but his back wobbles and he’s jerking the weight up? Yeah? Well I see those guys a lot and I rather do a clean motion without jerking and helping out with my back and I' rather use a lower weight and do the exercise right.

Same goes for pretty much every exercise. Focus on each rep. Bodyweight exercises are some of the best. Yes it’s maybe not as fancy to do push ups but they’re the best exercise for chest in my opinion.

Pull ups? Squats? They’re awesome and work your whole body. Try Burpees! They should get your blood flow going!

There was also the question of a good abs workout. At the moment I’m doing this:

Tar Heels Medicine Ball Workout

Try it and let me know what you think!

Alright, it’s time… Vader time…

I shall talk to you guys later!

No medicine ball...I'll probably just stick with the exercise wheel and crunches.

I totally agree with your push ups comment. Many people choose not to do them and cheat themselves out of the most simple and best workout for chest.
