I was, so I decided to play with my phone and I found out that I can take cool picture in picture photos! So this one is the first of many more to come! I call it "thinking about coffee". Fitting, isn't it?

Memorial Day Weekend

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

A weekend for the memories. I hope you had a good one too! Would you like to know how mine went? Well then just keep reading, because I will tell you and if you don’t you’re on the wrong site, but keep reading anyway!

Friday, the day weekends in my book begin, I joined up with some of my friends to enjoy a wrestling free Friday evening in the city of Philadelphia. Minigolf was on the agenda, but unfortunately there were a bunch of amateurs blocking the first hole.

Well it was not just a bunch it was a whole pack! So after standing there and debating we decided to leave minigolf be for the kids, and do some grown up stuff.

So we went to the casino in Philadelphia. After loosing some money on the penny slots I found the machine I was looking for. Photo0311

That kind of slot brought me luck in Las Vegas about a year ago, and I won some money there. It was not that much, but it paid for my meals (and you know that’s something I care about).
The trick is you have to get into the bonus games. That’s easier said than done, but I was lucky and got into a good one about 1 minute in. So after racking up the credits and my people telling me I’m on a nickel machine and not on a penny machine I decided to cash out. I just wanted to see how much I’m up.

Soooo when I printed the voucher it said 87.56! Heeey! I won free meals again! For the whole week to come! Go me!

But I was not the only lucky one, Arik Cannon won as well, Photo0312so we decided to party up! You may know that Arik used to be a King of Wrestling too! So we know how to party up with some hats and one of those funny things that roll out… I don’t know the name but it can be found at all parties!

The smart thing to do was cash out. And that’s what I did. I watched my friends gamble and listened to the great band that was playing.

Photo0309

They were so good that I didn’t even realize that there was a band playing, I just thought it’s radio.
After everybody was all gambled out we retreated to a nearby restaurant to get some food and tell stories.

That’s what we do, we tell stories, talk about the good old times and how life used to be. I’m getting old! Well not that old, I’m still young but it’s a fun thing to do. Telling stories that is.

While we were talking the Cavaliers vs. Magic game was going on and we all witnessed LeBron’s tremendous buzzer beater. Have you seen it? If not, you’re missed one of the best things last weekend!

Saturday finally came around and I made my way to Easton for some CHIKARA Aniversario Yin action. On the way there I stopped at Starbucks for some coffee and took the probably greatest picture ever taken by me!

All of a sudden it started to pour rain like crazy! It was so crazy that people pulled over! Photo0316 But not me! I trucked through the bad weather because Swiss people are used to weather conditions like this. I even took a picture for you guys. Now that’s dedication (or craziness, you decide). It got so bad that I was driving 30 in the left lane and I zoomed by everybody, it made me feel like I was driving 100!

Like me there were a lot of people who made their way to Easton through the rain so that they could enjoy the great CHIKARA show.
They were also able to sing my entrance music together with me and watch me fall over the stairs again.

But first things first. After loosing I felt a little sad so I decided to ask our ring announcer Loudn’ to sing my entrance music with me. As it turns out he doesn’t know my entrance music! Or, according to his version of the story got it mixed up with a RUN DMC song, yeah right…

And who saved the situation? Yes, you the fans! I asked them to sing with me and hey, it worked! I was so exited and played conductor for them while walking backwards. Beeg mistake (like Arnie in “Last Action Hero”), as I tumbled and fell backwards over the ring steps. Thanks to my cat like agility I landed on my feet though… Ring steps don’t seem to be my friend!

For those of you who remember me falling over the ring steps in Cleveland and giving them European Uppercuts (now also famous thanks to Botchamania 74 about 50 seconds in) so it happened again. I European Uppercutted the stairs to the crowds amusement and everybody got a good laugh out of it. I hope I will be featured with this on another Botchamania.

Sunday was Aniversario Yang at TheArena.biz. Not many words have to be lost there, since I’m still bruised up I will let the match do the talking.

I had a chance to watch most of the show and I must say this was one heck of a show! If you were not there you should definitely get the DVD over at SmartMarkVideo.com (when it will be available). Just for the main event alone it was worth it. The electricity of the crows was crazy and they were on their feet. And for all of you who don’t like Icarus you can see him… Well I don’t wanna spoil the results, so you just watch and enjoy. I certainly did which was also in part to my steady flow of fresh water, thank you, you know who you are!

Let me plug water at this time. Water is probably the greatest beverage ever and should be consumed by everybody. Also water should be sold free to everybody. Well not sold because it should be free, given away would be the proper term.

Monday came! And normally I sit down here on Monday and write a nice recap of my weekend. Not this time because my weekend was not over.

Memorial Day extended my weekend and I started it with some shopping. Grocery shopping, the best shopping of all. So it got me some great food which I when proceeded to incorporate in some great meals. That’s what you do with food.

Before the morning was over I also went to the gym for a great workout. Morning is my new favorite part of the day. If you have a great morning, the rest of the day will be so much better.

And so it was because I got joined by some friends, or more, I joined some friends to enjoy dollar hot dog night at the Phillies ballpark!

We barely sat down and already got on the big screen! I know people want to get on that thing all the time, I have been to a baseball game three times and I’ve been on twice! Not a bad quote I’d say. A little after that, this happened:

Photo0326 The bell rang! For those of you who have never been to a Phillies game that means HOMERUN! Whooo! Go Phillies.

sunsetme
Unfortunately the Marlins started to score so that I decided to take a picture of the sunset and then of the stadium when it got dark. That’s when I discovered the great panorama function on my phone, so you’ll hopefully get lot’s more of those cool long pictures.

Photo0330

Even though the Phillies ended up loosing I had a great time and a tremendous weekend started to end… And so will this blog.

I hope you enjoyed reading and if you did, tell your friends! Because the more people read this, the more I get motivated to write even more. And I know that’s what you want.

And to make this goodbye a little sweeter, I say “Tschüss” with this great picture…

That's how i

Episode out of my life. Imagine it, America, 2009…

It’s Wednesday night and I’m planning on going to bed within the next hour or so. But before I do that I figured I’d check my mail, try to update my-space (see what I did there?) a little bit and see what’s new in the world of the web.

While I’m on myspace I check for an app that allows paypal to run on myspace. In case you haven’t noticed none of the paypal links work there anymore. They apparently decided that it’s all spam or something.
Well it’s highly annoying and I wish I had four thumbs so I could give you four thumbs down myspace!!

Anyhow, browsing through the apps I saw that there is a thing called shopit. It’s an app by shopit.com and it’s a virtual store. It basically lets you set up a little store, put some pictures up with it and choose your method of payment. The best was that it created a widget for myspace that displays said store and let’s people buy stuff from it.

So I thought that’s a good idea and created one. Then I got over exited and told it to link it to Facebook. then my account got changed to a Facebook account and there were login problems.
Smart me just created another account and put it on his myspace. Well the problem was that in order for you to buy from the widget directly you had to sign up for shopit and I figured my customers don’t want to do that. I want paypal! It worked well in the past.

Then I realized that I have a perfectly fine little store on my website, and that people can buy conveniently from there like they used to from my myspace. So I case you would like to buy any of my awesome T-Shirts or the new DVD release of me vs. Brodie Lee with all our matches from our CHIKARA feud, please check it out here:

www.claudiocastagnoli.com/shop

So back to my story… I ended up deleting my shopit account since I decided I don’t need it.

Funny story you think? Well I thought so too except that after it all was said and done it was 2 hours later and I wanted to be asleep already!
But that’s just me and happens all the time! I see something online, want to try it and then realize I don’t really need it… Same thing happened when I decided to buy some webspace a little over two months ago.
God bless refunds!

Today I woke up with lot’s of energy though! And when I saw I won’t have a Banana (or nana, or naner) for my Müsli I decided to take action and go to the little store that’s conveniently located about 500 yards from my residence. So I still got my great breakfast and now have a way more productive day than I had last night!

Have I mentioned how much fun classes at your local gym are? No? Because I’m about to take one! Until the next time!

I take one day rest in between each workout (If my schedule allows me). On rest days I still do cardio, mainly classes at the gym I go do. I urge everybody to try the free classes at their gym! Even if you're the only guy in there, don't let that stop you!

Food Plan

Yes, I refuse to call it diet, because it doesn't feel like one! I eat great food and I love it.* I'm also constantly looking for new recipes in order to improve it, so keep checking back or send me yours!

So for those interested what I'm currently eat during the day, here you go.

  • Breakfast - Birchermüsli
Scoop of protein, plain yogurt, müsli, banana, strawberries and blueberries
  • Breakfast II - Traditional American
Scrambled eggs with ham, home made whole wheat pancakes
  • Protein Shake
2 scoops of protein, milk, banana, peanut butter

Home made Spätzle, carrots, tomato sauce and chicken

Supplements

They're quite popular. And there is a huge selection of them out there, so it's hard to fight yourself through the supplement jungle and find what's right for you.

Check out more detailed reviews of all the NRG-X Labs product from me on nrgxlabs.blogspot.com!

This is what I'm currently using and if I wouldn't like it, I wouldn't use it, let alone write about them here*.

Multi-Vitamin

As a multi vitamin, I'm using Vital Core by NRG-X Labs.

What's a multi vitamin? A multivitamin helps you take all the vitamins that you don't or only partially get from your daily food. It also give you extra vitamins and stuff you need.

Why Vital Core? Vital Core only had great results for me. I had other ones before but I always had to take extra magnesium for other pills. Not with this one.

Also you only have to take 3 pills twice a day which is not a lot.

Pre Workout

A pre workout shake helps you focus and get you pumped for your workout.

This is the best pre workout shake I've ever had. And I'm not just saying that! I tried many before because they usually don't work for me. Others gave me gitters and I almost got nauseous at times.
Overdose is the perfect shake. It tastes great, gets you pumped and focused for a great workout, every single time.

I'm also taking NRG-X Labs CEE3000 Creatine at the moment.

Creatine helps your muscles to recover faster, thus you will be able to work out harder and your muscles will grow more

The great thing about this product is that it doesn't make you hold water, which is what creatine usually does.

Post Workout

A post workout shake replenishes your body after a workout. I found this one to be quite delicious and also working very well.

Joint Support

I'm a pro wrestler. My joints get abused every time I step in the ring.

In order to protect them and keep them healthy I use Joint Maxx FLX.

This is a great product and I'd strongly recommend it to everybody who does a sport that is hard on the joints!

Protein

Thanks to it's rich chocolate flavor and great mixability this is my protein of choice right now.

*Keep in mind I'm not a personal trainer, nutritionist and do not have any degree as either. I just love working out and speak from my experiences. Read the lables on all supplements and be careful if you have any health condition etc.

Not the store, my morning!

How are you guys doing? Good? Well so am I! I only have about 40 minutes before I’ll hit the gym but I figured I’d write some stuff here!

Why? Well because lately I’ve gotten lots of workout questions and some people wanted me to write more about my workouts.

Well here’s another tip from me! Go to the free classes at your gym!
That’s where I’m going in a little bit too!

I just started last week and I was blown away. I could also slap myself for not starting this earlier. You get fresh new workouts every week, they play fun music and you don’t have to plan nothing! Just go, have a good time and enjoy a good workout.

Even if you’re the only dude in there, that doesn’t matter, don’t be scared away by that.

In my past blogs I also mentioned that I don’t like talking to people at the gym. During the workout that is. Once I start I am in my zone and want to go through everything properly without being interrupted.

After or before the workout if you have questions or see a personal trainer that’s not busy, talk to them, ask them questions. Like that you get free advice and you will learn without having to read up on stuff. You should like that. I know I do!

My friend just told me he likes to listen to sad music at the gym because it makes him mad which leads to a good workout. I also know people who listen to slow love songs. I listen to what I consider happy music. That just shows you that you should just listen to whatever you like and whatever works for you!

Food is very important when working out too. It is fuel for your body and if you work out hard you need to give your body the proper fuel. I eat clean healthy food everyday that tastes great! And so can you! You just have to find a couple of meals that you like and stick with them!

Try to eat more meals a day instead of two or three big ones. This is mostly common knowledge because it will help speeding up your metabolism because your body constantly needs to process and burn the food you eat.

When you go to the supermarket, try to follow this rule:

“If you can’t hunt it down, fish it out of the sea, pick it off a tree or dig it out of the ground, then do not eat it”

I found this quote in a book and it really helped me. Hopefully it helps you to. Now of course there’s a couple of things I eat that don’t follow this rule, like Peanut Butter or Protein Bars but hey, everybody needs a little snack :) But if you follow this rule in general you’ll make good food choices.

Pick and buy local food! This goes especially for fruit and vegetables. You will not only support your local community and producers you will also help save the environment. Just imagine how much fuel it costs to drive some apples from Mexico or California to your local grocery store? And how much exhaust it will produce. Also there’s a much longer in transit time.
Most big grocery stores have their own brands that come from local growers. They are also cheaper most of the time!

When you go out of the house, always bring some food with you. I always get hungry when I’m running errands and then I want to snack. If I have a protein bar or an apple with me I will eat that and not thinking about buying some candy at the store.

Now to the workout part. Don’t get all jacked up on weights! Yes there’s a guy pushing 350 at bench at your gym, but even if you beat him there will be another guy coming along who presses 400. You need to find what’s good for you and do it the proper way.

You can get a great workout without going super heavy. Do you have a guy at your gym who curls super heavy weight but his back wobbles and he’s jerking the weight up? Yeah? Well I see those guys a lot and I rather do a clean motion without jerking and helping out with my back and I' rather use a lower weight and do the exercise right.

Same goes for pretty much every exercise. Focus on each rep. Bodyweight exercises are some of the best. Yes it’s maybe not as fancy to do push ups but they’re the best exercise for chest in my opinion.

Pull ups? Squats? They’re awesome and work your whole body. Try Burpees! They should get your blood flow going!

There was also the question of a good abs workout. At the moment I’m doing this:

Tar Heels Medicine Ball Workout

Try it and let me know what you think!

Alright, it’s time… Vader time…

I shall talk to you guys later!

Claudio

A good way to start the week!

…. is reading this blog!

Good morning everybody! It’s early Monday morning, well depending of what you call early and I’m enjoying something great.

Birchermüsli! Well you may think that’s nothing special since I status-update all the time that I’m eating it. But trust me it is because I’m using a different Müsli-mix this morning. Kashi Coconut Beach! And I must admit those seven whole grains on a mission knew what they’re doing! It’s great! Big tasty clusters that stay crunchy. Two thumbs up for Kashi.

Now let’s go a few days back. Friday for example. Usually my weekend and with it this blog starts with Friday. Not this one. This was the first weekend in months that I had no show on Friday. So I enjoyed that day relaxing, going to the gym and watching a movie.

You know those movie rental boxes? Red Box they are called, and you can rent a movie for a dollar. They’re great!
Roderick Strong recommended me “7 Pounds” with Will Smith a few months back so I finally decided to see if his movie recommendations are trust worthy. And they definitely are.

I enjoyed the movie and thought Will did great in it. He’s such a multitalent. The fresh Prince is on right now and he’s been amazing for years. Except his Men in Black song which I can’t hear anymore. Mainly because when I was in Business School there was a project of the dance group that featured that song. I was not in the dance group but I heard that song like a million times (the gym was next to our class room) and it kind of ruined it for me.

Ah! Just finished my müsli and now sipping on some great coffee!

Back to Friday! Well actually Saturday now (since I finished the movie and went to bed). On Saturday I went to Vermont for Action Packed Wrestling. And what a glorious time it was.

First the road trip up there was great since I was joined among others by Bryce Remsburg. Myself and Bryce are part of the road trip crew. Because when I first moved over here we were on the road every weekend for over a year. That kind of bonds two people. In the last few years we haven’t been on that many road trips together but we enjoy when they come along our way.

Vermont is a very beautiful state and it reminds me of Photo0299 Switzerland. Lot’s of greens and hills. The only thing that’s missing are mountains. Well they do have mountains, but I mean big ones like the Alps.

There are also many golf courses in Vermont. If I’d ever get into golfing I would probably move up there in a motor home. Just because there are many camping grounds as well. And since I would want to try all the courses I would have to move a lot and a motor home would come in handy.

The show itself was a lot of fun and I had such a good time. I mean I wore a fox mascot mask and played the (ch)air guitar in the middle of the ring. I hope there are pictures of this glorious moment online soon. And trust me I will share those with you as soon as I find them! I also teamed up with Colin Delaney and we rocked Rutland, VT!

The drive back was long. Actually not longer than the drive up but because I was driving it seemed that way. The fact that it was raining the whole way through didn’t help either. I was looking forward to some coffee to help me along the way but of course on the first two rast plazas who came up there was nothing open but a Roy Rogers (I hate Roy Rogers) and that was 2 hours into the trip!

Finally the third plaza came through and I got my coffee fix. Thank you McDonalds for coming through two times in a row! I also got some gum because gum rules. Except they had such a small selection that I couldn’t get my favorites. At 3 in the morning I didn’t really care about that anymore though.

The coffee held me awake for the rest of the drive. All hail you coffee god!
But there was still something bound to happen. I got pulled over… But luckily the officer was super nice and even though we couldn’t find the registration papers for 4 minutes he let me go with a slap on the wrist a.k.a a warning.
I thought I wasn’t going that fast anyway. But if I read the warning correctly I was going 35 over… Well I wanted to get home!

Photo0305
Before I got home I also saw this street sign! The trust is a must at this intersection!

Home for Sunday. Sunday was a glorious day! Full of sleeping in, and great food. Great food would be a Chocolate Chip cookie from Starbucks combined with a white chocolate steamy latte (Are you not aware that I get farty and bloated with a foamy latte?), I Rösti with Zürichgeschnetzeltes and Pizza. Yes there are some recipes coming!

I was also going watch “Slumdog Millionaire” but first I did an interview for The Weekly Wrestling Wrap Up I ended up talking for a long time, so if you want go check it out!

The movie was tremendous and I completely understand and agree that they won all those Oscars. Not that I was the one that they needed to convince. I strongly recommend the movie to anybody that hasn’t seen it yet.

Today I’m all exited to hit the gym again. My legs were sore until yesterday from my leg workout last Wednesday! Which means it was great. I will share more workout thoughts in a completely separate blog probably tomorrow.

So get back to work or whatever you took time off to read this, note that I appreciate you taking time to read this and have a great day!

You will hear from me soon again! And I hope I will see you back here then too!

Tschüss,

Mc donalds is saving my drive home!

Ice coffee

it's summer, time for cool refreshments. So since we stopped at a little strip mall that had a dunkin donuts I figured I give it another shot. I got a french vanilla iced coffee. I was ready to rip it apart but then tried a sip of the cinnamon one and immediately wished I got that one instead.

so I arranged a trade and now i'm happily sipping on my cinnamon iced coffee! And I don't even like cinnamon. So one thumb up!

Claudio’s Birchermuesli!

Friday, May 15, 2009

Hello everybody! Since I’ve been talking so much about my breakfast I figured I’d share the recipe with you guys!

So all you need is:

birchermueslypreparation

  • - A Bowl
  • - Non-fat plain yogurt
  • - Müsli mix
  • - Banana
  • - Strawberries
  • - Blueberries
  • - Raisins
  • - And optional is some protein powder

Now pour the yogurt into the bowl and if you’re using protein powder, put a scoop of protein powder on top of the yogurt. Stir it until it’s all mixed up.

Add the müsli mix, the blueberries and the extra raisins (a good müsli mix should already have some raisins in there).

Then cut up the strawberries and the banana in nice junks (however big you like them) and put them in the bowl as well.

Voilà you have a delicious breakfast!

birchermuesli

A little background on Birchermüsli for those who are interested:

“Birchermüesli" was invented by Maximilian Oskar Bircher-Benner (1867-1939), hence the name. He was a pioneer of the biological health medicine and healthy eating.

Dr. Bircher was lived in Zürich Switzerland and around 1900, he suggested that cereals, fruits and vegetables are more valuable food than meat.

While at that time meat was regarded as the best suited and most valuable food for humans, vegetables and fruits were considered food of the poor people. But Dr. Bircher believed in what he called "food of the sunlight", meals based on biological, natural ingredients.

He created a recipe which is known today worldwide as "Birchmüesli".

He was also convinced that health care should be much more than just medical treatments. In 1897, Dr. Bircher founded a sanatorium in Zürich, where he practiced a complete therapy which included nutrition, a daily exercise, bathing and sunbathing. He even set up exercise equipment, so we can see his sanatorium as a kind of a fore runner of the gym and fitness centers as we know them today.

my breakfast!

Monday Night … well I can’t think of anything…

Monday, May 11, 2009

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to my weekly writing on the internet thing. A.K.A my blog.
I like it, the kids like it and I hope you like it too. With the kids, of course I mean people who give me kudos and post answers.

What’s new? Quite a lot. My weekend was great, consisting of two Ring of Honor Shows and a cheat day like there never was one.

But let’s stay on track, shall we?

Friday started with me getting up early, driving to King of Prussia (yes the great and awesome mall a little bit outside of Philadelphia, original home of the “Fresh Prince”). From there the ride took us to Boston!

Boston I love you! I just wanted to say that because despite the drive being quite long I always enjoy going to Boston. Why? Let’s put it this way, since my match with Takeshi Morishima we have this special bond. They love me with a passion, they hate me with a passion and that’s great.

By the way I’m trying really hard to eliminate my many ! that I put at the end of every sentence. There were way too many, so I try to mix it up and put some dots at the end of some sentences.

Boston got a red hot ROH show and I bet everybody who was there enjoyed it! The energy in the crowd goes over to the wrestler and enhances his performance. Maybe not even be known to the wrestler, but it happens. Boston was so hot and it showed! I know there were a lot of cancelations and card changes but I bet nobody even remembered them after the show!

The ride back was quite the double edged sword. First I apparently missed a turn, as all of a sudden my GPS told me I had to drive 20 miles more than just a minute ago! And there was no big highway divider or exit or anything! But somehow I did something wrong that delayed my arrival time by like 20 minutes!
I was so upset!
But that all got better when I stopped to get gas and I got some actually amazing coffee at McDonalds. Yes I dissed McDonalds coffee earlier this year for the one I got in Canada.
But this McDonalds was different. Maybe because it was on a rest plaza, they had name brand coffee, lowfat milk and sf syrup! In short, the good stuff!
Which made my ride home so much better! I actually made up the 20 minutes and got home before 5 AM!

That didn’t hold me back to go to the gym at 9.45. Some called it dedication, some called it craziness. Whatever you wanna call it, I did it.
I also then fell asleep on the ride to the show. That was until I got me some Starbucks coffee!

Then it was time for ROH in Edison, New Jersey. Unfortunately I was not successful! That’s basically all I want to say about that! Maybe it was because of my lack of sleep, but I don’t really remember much else.

What I remember is the Sunday… So I was on a diet for the first time in my life. Now I had the first real cheat day of my life, and it wasn’t pretty.
Mongolian Buffet, Pizza Buffet, White Chocolate Peanut Butter Milk Shake, Taco Bell Nachos and KFC grilled chicken. Well I only had the KFC because it’s linked to the Taco Bell and I wanted to try those nachos they hype in the commercials.

And let me tell you, they’re a shame! SHAME on YOU Taco Bell! I got maybe 11 chips, COLD beans with some lame little sprinkle of cheese over top of it. Well I guess you get what you pay for but even 79 cents is too much for this!

My stomach hurt so bad that I fell asleep on 9 o’clock last night.

In between I saw Wolverine. I know I spelled it wrong “Wolferine” on all my twitters yesterday. My apologies to all die hard Wolverine fans.
The movies was okay. I enjoyed it. It just felt the it factor was missing for me. Maybe it’s because it’s the story of him and when it ends I felt like “Yeah, now it can start!” if you know what I mean.

The grocery store was also visited, but not to buy bad food, no, to buy good food for my new diet starting today. I’m actually having fun dieting, and I wouldn’t even call it dieting. Because my food on the “diet” actually tastes better than the crap I ate yesterday. Except I miss chocolate, as a Swiss person I’m a sucker for it.

But I’m done talking about my diet, I don’t wanna bore people. If you wanna know more about it check out my blogs over at nrgxlabs.blogspot.com.

Today I was quite productive as I completely overhauled the layout of www.claudiocastagnoli.com! What do you think? I like it!

IMG_3934ClaudioI’m also thinking about selling some of my old entrance gear.   You know the cool sparkly stuff I used to wear? Yeah, that stuff! Anyone interested?

Oh, before I forget, I also decided to start posting good jokes I hear! But don’t worry about reading tons of bad jokes now. Only Claudio approved jokes will make it!

So, thank you for your patience and reading this!

Bis zum nächsten mal,
Claudio
